The Commandant

Colonel (Col) Errol Vaughn Johnson through his exposure to good values and attitudes as a youngster developed a passion for education. His educational journey started at Preston Hill Primary School after which he moved on to Clarendon College where he actively participated in  co-curricular activities to include Cadet and Cricket.  He maintained a high level of discipline which propelled him to be the Company Sergeant Major for the Cadet Unit as well as the Head Boy for the school.

Col. Johnson continued his educational pursuit by attaining a Bachelor of Science Degree (First Class Honours) in Chemistry from the University of Rajasthan, India on scholarship. He then pursed further studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona where obtained a Masters in Education (Psychology) and a Diploma in Education.

Professionally, Col. Johnson has served at various levels of the Secondary Education System since 1975; rising from a pre-trained teacher, to Head of Department, to Acting Principal and two-time Principal by 2016.  

Col Johnson has received several awards as being a service oriented and civic minded individual who continues to give of himself to the growth and development of Jamaica.

He was presented with the Badge of Honour (Meritorious Service), the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation (Service to Education), LASCO Principal of the Year, 2011/12,

Jamaica Teacher’s Association (JTA) Golden Torch Award, Caribbean Cadet Force Medal for efficient service to the Caribbean Cadet Forces, Jamaica Combined Cadet Force  Medal for long, efficient and meritorious service to the Force and the Commandant’s Commendation Medal (CCM).

Col Johnson was appointed by the Governor-General of Jamaica as Custos Rotulorum for the parish of St. Mary, a position he currently holds.

Col Johnson has served the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force at various ranks; moving from being commissioned as Second Lieutenant (2LT) in 1975 and promoted to the rank of Colonel in 2016 as well as appointed Commandant.

He has served the following committees; the Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal Committee, Jamaica Library Service, Eastern Secondary Schools Sports Association (ESSSA), Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (JAPSS) and the National Bioethics Committee of Jamaica (NBCJ).

Col Johnson is a qualified Hindu Marriage Officer, President and Religious Leader of the Sanatan Dharma Mandir, Jamaica.

He is married to Loris and the union produced two children; Mrs. Vashtee Carey married to Mr. Kevin Carey and Dr. Kavita Johnson. Col. and Mrs. Johnson are also the proud grandparents of Aadesh Carey.
